Surface/solid models can be generated from original parts or models using 3D digitizing, or even 2D flat bed scanning. The digitizing medium can be ball probe, laser or manual arm; the choice depends upon the form of the original part. The resultant co-ordinate points are then converted into 3D profiles and finally into a 3D surface/solid model of the part, These models can then be used to generate cutter paths. Alternativley the data can be returned to the customer in a variety of 3D formats.
